An article dated today, May 13, 2012

The article below is about the unspeakable truth  that has existed far too long in a country like the USA!  Otherwise responsible police officers ignore it, District Attorneys generally view such cases as unable to get a conviction and witnesses turn a blind eye .  Not all of us have speech that is unintelligible and many of us are of average or above average intelligence.  It is time for our country to consider our lives equally valuable and assist us in living to our maximum potential.  This may or may not include the Special Olympics.  Time to put aside those stereotypes and start valuing ALL citizens!

Disability policy expert Dr. Sal Pizzuro examines a proposed program in New York State to establish a Justice Center that will be responsible for maintaining the civil rights of individuals with developmental disabilities. Should such a program be implemented in the Garden State too?

    I love and support the Special Olympics--afirst rate organization!

      I couldn't agree more. I support Special Olympics as well! I attend the competition annually as the games are held at Penn State near where I live. However, when it is ASSUMED that everyone with a developmental disability belongs in this group, it can become a stereotype and limit one's potential in many areas of their life. This has been my experience.
